IN this week’s Down Memory Lane we look at the history of the shortlived association football team, Grays Thurrock United.
The team was formed in 1924 as Grays Transport Football Club, and represented transport workers of the area, the name was changed before the start of the 1924-25 season.
During their initial season they competed in the Kent League, playing at the Lawn in Little Thurrock.
The club was accepted into the Southern League in 1925.
In the same year they made the decision to groundshare with Grays Athletic at the Recreation Ground.
Their secretarymanager was Arthur Johnson, a local man who had previously played for Southend United.
The Club was eventually dissolved in 1932.
