BIG-HEARTED fundraisers in Earls Colne are taking a well-earned break after collecting almost £1,500 during the lockdown.

Residents of De Vere Road have been putting their time to good use over the last two months, raising £1,460 for a range of good causes with amazing street parties.

The parties have included games and raffles, along with live music provided by the street’s resident DJ Paul Woodworth.

Their most recent event, which was held on May 24, raised a staggering £960 for Colchester Zoo.

Other events, including a VE Day celebration, raised hundreds of pounds for the NHS and Royal British Legion.

However, the street has now decided to call it a day – for the time being.

Organiser Arline Sloan said: “We are taking a well-deserved break from the street music event and fundraising for a month or two.

“They have been phenomenal. On our second music event we had the pleasure of the Fortune Girls singing for us.

“Everyone in the village has come together.

“DJ Paul has been amazing.

“De Vere Road has been absolutely electric and it’s an honour to call it home.

“We are now all one big family!”
