A CARING five-year-old is looking to raise funds for a fellow West Ham United fan undergoing treatment for a rare form of childhood cancer by completing 101 dribbles, goals and celebrations.

Liam Southwood recently raised more than £2,000 for the NHS Charities Together and the football fanatic has set his sights on his next challenge.

Isla Caton is close to £80,000 short of her target for ongoing treatment for neuroblastoma.

Liam will be looking to play his part by completing 101 dribbles, goals and celebrations in his back garden on Saturday.

Liam’s dad Richard Southwood said: “This is Liam’s second charity event. Because of not going to school or West Ham due to lockdown, he started doing the #HammersAtHome challenges.

“He got a lot of interest from people all over the world, including his favourite West Ham player Michail Antonio, so he wanted to start his own challenge.

“After raising more than £2,000 for the NHS Charities Together, he wanted to take on another challenge and thought it would be good to do it for Isla.

“Lockdown has made it difficult for Isla to raise money but, with her being a fellow West Ham fan and also five-years-old, Liam wants to contribute.”

Isla was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in March 2017 and has since undergone treatment in Barcelona.

However, Isla requires further treatment in the United States of America to prevent a relapse.

Liam – a pupil at Rayleigh’s St Nicholas School – has set a goal of raising £1,000 and looks set to smash his target having already seen more than £600 donated.

More than 50 children have already agreed to take part in Liam’s 101 dribbles, goals and celebrations challenge on Saturday.

Liam will be taking on the challenge in his back garden in Lincoln Way, Rayleigh, and dad Richard is bursting with pride.

He added: “The key thing is he enjoys raising money and he has a purpose.

“I am really proud of him raising money. He has created a wonderful experience for himself that will stand him in good stead over the course of his life.”
