A man is set to appear in court after success from a police operation aimed at cracking down on knife crime and serious violence.

Alex Aldridge, 22, of Cheltenham Road, Southend, has been summonsed to court after being arrested on January 24 during an operation also aimed at tackling drugs offences.

He was arrested on Hamstel Road, Southend, and will appear at will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on September 7.

He will appear on suspicion of the following charges:

  • Possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
  • Two counts of drug-driving
  • Careless driving
  • Failing to stop for police
  • Driving without insurance
  • Possession of cannabis.

The arrest took place during two weeks of police action around Southend earlier this year as part of Operation Sceptre.
