SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has revealed what he is looking for in the next Shrimpers manager.

Blues are looking for a new boss following Sol Campbell’s departure last month.

And Martin is keen to appoint a young and hungry replacement.

“Our profile is a young, hungry, bright and utterly committed individual,” said Martin.

“Success starts with the right attitude and that must come from the top.

“If the manager hasn’t got it then the players won’t either.

“Football is not a hobby, it’s 24/7 every day and without that we will not succeed.

“Recent history has proven that."

Martin has already received more than 30 applications for the job.

But he will only appoint a manager who is committed to the club.

"I am not interested in a manager who simply wants a job, they are 10 a penny," said Martin.

"If Southend United is not their number one priority then they need not bother applying."
