ANGRY residents gathered to protest against a controversial planning application waving signs and banners.

More than 200 people, including trumpet and clarinet players, turned up along Low Road, Dovercourt, on Saturday to show their opposition to the Chalet Park development.

KLH Architects originally applied for a high-quality chalet park on the land West of Don Thomson House Residential Care Home, in Low Road, Dovercourt, but the application was withdrawn.

However, they have now resubmitted an outline planning application to Tendring Council to build a chalet park including a new access road, family pub and restaurant.

Donna Collier, 55, who lives opposite the proposed development, in Whinfield Avenue, Dovercourt, said residents feel they need to do something to stop the development.

She said: “Everyone was chanting they do not want this to go ahead and the views are so strong. It’s a beautiful area, the building work is just a waste.

“We were chanting: ‘We don’t want the chalet, we don’t want the building site here’.

“It’s always been a quiet area, there is a lot of people walking dogs and enjoying the green space.

“It’s a shame, I feel they will wreck the landscape.

“It will be full of cars, people up and down, late night drinking, it’s going to be a completely different area and it will change the ambience of the area.”

Another resident, of Frobisher Road, Dovercourt, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the area is enjoyed by families and young people doing exercise.

The 58-year-old woman said: “Harwich and Dovercourt has lots of quirky pubs and restaurants. We don’t need a noisy pub next to a retirement home.

“Residents are saying enough is enough.”

Residents are organising a march against the plans which will take place with police escort on Saturday at 11am.

KLH Architects Ltd was contacted for a comment but did not respond by the time of going to press.
