A “NASTY” blackmailer told a 16-year-old girl he would share indecent photos of her online if she didn’t send him more.

Paul Campbell must pay his victim £1,000 in compensation, but has been spared jail over his “wicked” actions in 2014 and 2017.

The 25-year-old of Gordon Place, Southend flirted with the girl online in 2014 and she sent him some photos where she was not wearing a top.

However, Campbell then created a new online profile with a fake name, and sent the photos back to the girl, telling her if she did not send more he would forward the ones he had onto her family and friends.

He did the same thing again three years later in 2017, after a police investigation in Scotland went nowhere and the girl had moved on.

However, this time when the girl called the police action was taken, and Campbell was arrested in January 2018.

He was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on Friday.

Judge Samantha Cohen said: “It was a wicked thing to do to a 16 year old - to anyone - she felt devastated and betrayed by you and she was frightened.

“You got yourself a job and a girlfriend, but in 2017 you pretended to be a third person and you sent photos again to her, and said if she didn’t, you would post the indecent images of her as a 16-year-old on the internet and on Instagram.

“The messages you sent in 2017 were nasty messages.

“She was devastated, it was coming back to haunt her again.”

Representing himself, Campbell said he was intoxicated at the time of sending the messages and was now unemployed.

He said: “I was told I would lose my job.

“I was advised to resign before they let me go.”

He also told the judge he had been waiting for information from the police for two years about how his case was progressing.

Judge Cohen added: “You said you did wrong and that you were ashamed. I accept that is true and that it’s true now.

“This must have been traumatic for your girlfriend, that’s someone else you have affected by your actions.”

The judge gave Campbell a suspended 20 month prison sentence, and he must complete 250 hours of unpaid work.
