AFTER enduring numerous sleepless nights during lockdown, a quirky crazy golf business is hoping they will thrive in the years ahead.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced countless companies across the country to close for good in recent months.

Among those was Caddies, which offers fun crazy golf on Southend’s London Road.

Boasting eccentric 1970s decor and singing chickens which have become the talk of the town, Caddies brightens south Essex residents’ days.

But George Bejko-Cowlbeck admits Caddies could have become a distant memory were it not for the furlough scheme brought in by the government in March.

Impressive - Caddies is the number one rated crazy golf in Essex after clinching the Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award for 2020

Mr Bejko-Cowlbeck, a director at the business, said: “It’s been tough. With us losing four months of revenue and now having to operate at a reduced capacity of 50 per cent, it has stretched us to breaking point with many sleepless nights.

“Luckily, thanks to the furlough scheme, we have managed to keep our entire team in employment.

“We just celebrated our second birthday in May and it’s fantastic that we have come through the other side of the lockdown restrictions which forced us to temporarily close.”

Caddies offers mouth-watering barbecue food and tropical cocktails to keep you going as you make your way around the crazy golf course.

But it is not just the food and drink on offer which Caddies is known for.

Mr Bejko-Cowlbeck added: “We have just been awarded the Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award for 2020.

“The award makes us the number one rated crazy golf in Essex.

“We are extremely proud and it is all thanks to our amazing team.”

Mr Bejko-Cowlbeck hopes to see more of the community visiting Caddies as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

He admitted: “It’s such a great laugh and, with the way of the world currently, I think we all need a good laugh.

“I wouldn’t take my word for it though, read our customer reviews online – they do all the talking for us.”
