FIRE crews have been working through the night battling a fire at an industrial building in Basildon.

A total of 16 appliances have been in use to try to put out the fire at the building in Christopher Martin Road.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the roof of an industrial building.

Eight appliances and two Aerial Ladder Platforms, from Chelmsford and Grays, were initially in attendance.

However, as the fire took hold fire crews were sent from Basildon, Rayleigh Weir, Billericay, Wickford, Leigh, Corringham and Orsett as well as the two Aerial Ladder Platform crews.

Aerial videos show the huge flames glowing inside the unit, as the blaze took hold of the building.

The fire was first reported at 10.20pm yesterday.

By 12.25am today, the building was reported to be completely alight.

The fire was producing large amounts of smoke and residents in the area were advised to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed.

Fire crews battle through the night and at 7am today were still working on scene.

They are likely to remain there for the rest of today.
