A GP has advised patients not to call unless absolutely urgent after a fire damaged its building overnight.
Queensway Surgery and Pharmacy is assessing the damage today following the fire overnight from 11.30pm.
Witnesses reported seeing huge amounts of smoke coming from the building.
The GP has advised some patient services will be affected by the fire today and advised people not to call unless absolutely necessary.
Tricia D'Orsi, Deputy Accountable Officer for the Southend Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "Due to a fire overnight at Queensway Pharmacy, there is likely to be disruption to appointments at Queensway GP practice today while structural damage is assessed.
"Staff are working hard to put alternative arrangements in place for patients this morning.
"We ask that people try not to call the surgery unless it is urgent.
"People are advised to call NHS 111 for urgent medical advice. Access to the pharmacy and prescription collection may also be disrupted.
"We are working with NHS England and partners to ensure local residents can access important medication.
"We appreciate your patience in helping us through this situation."
