A child was hit by a car near two Thurrock schools, causing the road to be shut in both directions.

The young boy was rushed to hospital after the accident, which happened at around 8am this morning (September 24), on Erriff Drive in South Ockendon.

As a result the road, which is near Harris Academy Ockendon and Sixth Form as well as Beacon Hill Academy, was shut by police in both directions this morning.

Essex Police have since confirmed that a pedestrian had been been involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta, with bus routes also being affected by the road closure.

Ensignbus tweeted: "ROUTE 22: Due to police incident closing the road at Eriff Drive, all services are currently being diverted via Darenth Lane (the Police Station road).

"We are NOT serving the top end of Foyle Drive, Erriff Drive or the top end of Daiglen Drive until further notice."

The road has since reopened.
