A POLICE inspector has implored residents to use common sense and follow the rules as several North Wales counties prepare to go into lockdown.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething announced yesterday that Flintshire, Wrexham, Conwy and Denbighshire will go into lockdown on Thursday at 6pm.

This means that in addition to the existing restrictions, people will not be allowed to enter or leave each of these areas without a reasonable excuse, such as travel for work or education and they will only be able to meet people they don’t live with outdoors for the time being.

Wrexham-based District Inspector Victor Powell has called on the public do the right thing.

He said his team will continue to educate, explain, encourage people to follow the rules, and enforce them if they are not followed (a strategy referred to as the four E's).

"The public needs to follow the rules," he said.

"We are working with partners to ensure support on all aspects of the regulations. "I implore the good people of Wrexham to follow the guidance set out by the Welsh Government - it is crucial in keeping each other safe that we do that."

Insp Powell said so far, compliance across Wrexham has been good, adding: "The pubs, certainly in Wrexham town, have been very good.

"We have had one or two teething issues across the board but by adopting the first of the four E's we are working our way through it.

"We appreciate it is confusing but it is about doing the right thing. "If you are unsure and you have to ask yourself the question - should I be doing this? - you probably shouldn't be doing it.

"As long as people use common sense and follow the rules, we'll come out on the other side of this together."
