A man from Erith has been arrested after an assault in Gravesend town centre has left a man in hospital.

Police and ambulances were seen in Milton Road, Gravesend, at around 9:15pm on Monday night after reports of an attack, possibly a stabbing.

Rumours of a knife attack proved false, but a man in his 30s was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to Kent Police, a 45-year-old man from Erith was arrested near the scene on suspicion of assault.

He has since been released on bail until later into October, and police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "Kent Police was called at 9.17pm on Monday 28 September to a report a man had been assaulted in Milton Road, Gravesend.

"Officers attended alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service and the victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"A 45-year-old man from Erith was arrested on suspicion of assault and he has since been released on bail, pending further enquiries, until Wednesday 21 October."
