CASTLE Point Golf Course, on Canvey, was partially sectioned off after a workman discovered what appeared to be an unexploded bomb earlier today.

The police were alerted to the object found at Castle View Road, on Canvey, which lead to the Castle Point Golf Course, at Somnes Road, Canvey, being partially sectioned off. 

The golf club did not wish to speak to the Echo on the matter but posted on its Facebook page that the back nine hole was closed due to a police investigation.

The bomb was found to not be live and was safely disposed of.

The golf club were able to fully-reopen a few hours later.

A resident who did not want to be named, said: "There were two policeman guarding the ditch that runs along side the golf course due to a suspected bomb shell. 
"The ditch runs behind the houses and rugby club.
"I was first alerted that something was going on after a helicopter was hovering above us.
"Other people that live near the golf course were keeping me informed. 
A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We were called shortly after 12pm on Thursday October 1 with reports what appeared to be an unexploded bomb had been found by a workman in Castle View Road, Canvey.
"A cordon was put in place while the Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended and assessed the object.
"It was not deemed to be explosive or live ammunition and was removed and disposed of."
