A LEADING fashion retailer is calling on the community to support the British high street by shopping locally.

M&Co, which has had a presence in Rayleigh, Canvey and Billericay for more than 40 years, is encouraging shoppers to turn to traders closer to home before travelling further afield.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit businesses hard, with companies up and down the country either going bust or missing out on valuable income.

M&Co is a retail chain which sells womenswear, menswear, kidswear and homeware.

Southend BID manager Suzanne Gloyne also backed the call.

She said: “We all need to do our bit, especially now, to spend locally and help businesses bounce back for the long-term benefit of our community.

“Whether you choose to shop in national or independent outlets, shopping locally will boost the local economy and maintain jobs in our town at a time when there is so much uncertainty.

“Our shops, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities are all strictly adhering to the guidelines and you can be assured that your safety has been prioritised.”

“We know our customers love knowing their sales advisor’s name and the staff equally enjoy building wonderful relationships with every customer.

“Covid-19 means many people don’t feel comfortable travelling on public transport or visiting busy city centres, which is good news for shops in local town centres.

“Without the support from the local people in Rayleigh, Canvey and Billericay we wouldn’t be able to continue trading on the high street and appreciate every customer that has come through the doors during these difficult times.”
