A MAN was arrested 12 miles away in Southend after a woman was injured in an alleged hit and run at the Fortune of War junction this morning.

A cyclist was left with serious injuries - including fractures to her ribs, pelvis and arm - after being involved in a "hit and run" with a lorry at the Fortune of War roundabout.

The incident took place at about 6am this morning.

A cyclist and a lorry were travelling in the same direction on the Southend-bound carriageway when they were involved in the crash.

Essex Police say the lorry failed to stop at the scene but was later stopped 20 miles away in Nestuda Way, Southend.
