A SMALL number of staff and students at South Essex College - based in Southend - are in isolation following a positive coronavirus case.

The college stressed it had taken advice from the Department for Education and added it had taken all appropriate advice to keep staff and students safe.

College bosses also took the opportunity to make it clear face coverings should be worn and social distancing should be observed in the battle to beat coronavirus.

A spokesman, posting on the college's website, said: "We wanted to let you know about a confirmed positive staff case of covid late on Friday last week.

"After taking advice from the DFE covid helpline a small number of students and staff were required to self-isolate, as per Government guidance.

"Anyone who needs to self-isolate has been contacted.

"Thank you for your ongoing support in wearing facemasks and staying apart in college."

The college last announced positive cases on October 21. One student tested positive was an apprentice based at the Stephenson Road site, Eastwood and another was from the college's HE function at Luker Road, Southend.
