A MEMBER of staff at a primary school has tested positive for Covid-19.

An adult working with Year Two pupils at Richmond Avenue Primary School and Nursery in Shoebury has tested positive for the virus.

Ruth Brock, Chief Executive Officer of Southend East Community Academy Trust (SECAT) which runs the school said: "We have planned for this contingency watching all of the changing regulations. It is a situation that has been foreseen and very well planned for.

"As soon as we had notification, leaders within the school were in communication with the Department for Education (DfE) who discussed the plans we had intended to put in place.

"The year two bubble has been asked to self-isolate as a precaution in line with guidance given by the Department for Education helpline.

"We have also notified parents of all of our children in our other five schools, so that they are aware of the developing situation.

"All parents in the school directly affected by the incident have also been informed.

"Providing education for all of our children is our primary purpose and we will continue to do that in our usual way."
