A GENEROUS boss is offering free PPE to help struggling charities to get through the coronavirus pandemic.

Pronto Direct, in Southfields Business Park, Basildon, rapidly delivers essential safety supplies, PPE and workwear.

The company is passionate about the safety of everyone across society - but especially those working on the frontline in these testing times.

With the government lifting the VAT exemption on all PPE products, Pronto Direct is looking to help charities who have been dealt another blow during the pandemic.

Matthew Spiller, the co-founder and chief executive of Pronto Direct, feels it is vital to provide help to various local charities already on the brink of extinction due to a lack of fundraising during the pandemic.

He said: “PPE has become an essential part of our daily lives since the pandemic began.

“Face masks and hand sanitisers are products we simply cannot live without anymore.

“We’re disappointed that the government has decided to reinstate the tax on these products as it’s inevitably going to cause financial difficulty for many hospices and charity-run organisations.

“That is why we wanted to do what we can during these difficult times to help out our local charities.”

The business is offering free PPE and has a selection of medical grade disposable face masks, hand sanitiser, disposable nitrile gloves as well as disposable plastic aprons for charities in need during this second period of lockdown.

The government’s decision to lift the VAT exemption on all PPE products came into force just a matter of days before Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced England was heading into a second lockdown until December 2.

The move is expected to have a negative impact on charities, but Mr Spiller is keen to ensure none are forced to close.

He added: “Supporting local charities is something which is always on our mind as a business.

“We like to help out in our local community as much as possible and they need our help now more than ever.

“Many are struggling due to a lack of funding and less donations than usual.”
