RESCUE crews found a casualty suffering from hypothermia after they alerted to reports of a person in the water in Shoebury. 

HM Coastguard Southend and Southend RNLI lifeboat crews sprung into action following the incident opposite Chapel Road at Shoebury Garrison.

RNLI Southend Lifeboat also launched their D-Class lifeboat to assist.

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "Southend Coastguard proceeded to scene and upon arrive the casualty was already out of the water but suffering the effects of secondary hypothermia.

"Southend Coastguard provided casualty care whilst awaiting the arrival of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Essex Police were also in attendance.

Once East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust were on scene the casualty was then moved to the ambulance and transferred to hospital and all teams were then stood down and returned to station.

"We would like to thank all those involved in helping the casualty today and we wish the casualty well and a quick recovery."
