A school has been forced to shut after a large number of staff are self-isolate after Covid case fears.

De La Salle School in Basildon will now be closed until Monday 7 December and leaders say all students must learn from home from today.

The headteacher also said children will not lose out on their education.

In a letter to parents Paul Norris, Headteacher said: "I am writing to inform you that De La Salle School has made the decision to move all students to a remote learning offer with immediate effect. The school site will be temporarily closed to all students.

"We have made this difficult decision due to staff shortages brought about by a large number of staff self isolating, following close contacts with positive cases of Covid-19.

"This decision has not been taken lightly and we would like to reassure parents and carers that we continue to put the safeguarding and wellbeing of our pupils at the forefront of everything we do."
