A controlled explosion has been carried out a railway station this afternoon.

Police officers and a bomb disposal unit were spotted at Garston train station, and the station was taped off.

The British Transport Police says it received reports of a suspicious package, but following enquiries, there is not believed to be any risk to the public.

Watford Observer:

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Garston station at 11.34am this morning (25 November) following reports of a suspicious package.

"Specialist officers attended and a controlled explosion has taken place.

"Enquiries into the incident continue, but there is not believed to be any risk to the public."

There are multiple reports from witnesses that a bottle was discovered with wires in it and this may have prompted the emergency response.

Some homes close to the station were evacuated.
