A THORPE Bay-based estate agents is helping to get the elderly into the Christmas spirit thanks to donations from generous members of the community.

Goldings Estate Agents have teamed up with the Salvation Army Shoeburyness, Turning Tides and SAVS to collect shoeboxes and hampers to distribute to residents and families across Southend and Shoeburyness.

The move comes as government restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic will stop numerous families being able to spend the festive period together.

It is feared the current regulations will result in loneliness among the elderly having been isolated like never before.

Ryan Golding, of Goldings Estate Agents, said: “I am sure you will agree this year has been like no other.

“Here at Goldings, we are keen to ensure Christmas is special for those less fortunate and for those facing loneliness in our community.

“This year there will be many parents who will find it tough to provide gifts for their children and we know too many older people have been far more isolated than ever before and may be facing Christmas alone.

“Our Christmas elves will work with Santa and the reindeer to deliver the boxes before Christmas Day.”

Goldings, the Salvation Army Shoeburyness, Turning Tides and SAVS are collecting boxes filled with small gifts – such as toys, games, books, toiletries, puzzle books, biscuits and sweets – for families and older members of the community until December 13.

Those looking to get involved and donate presents are asked to fill a shoebox with gifts tailored to those aged up to 18 or over 65.

The box must also be labelled with the gender and age the gifts are appropriate for to ensure it is delivered to someone who will benefit from the donation most.

All presents, which should not be wrapped, must be delivered to the Goldings office on The Broadway, Thorpe Bay, before December 13.

The community is also being urged to get creative and decorate their shoeboxes as a prize will be awarded for the best design.

Goldings can supply a small number of hampers to make up for members of the community, complete with cellophane and ribbon.
