HUGE numbers joined an online candle service for a Down’s Syndrome husband who lost his battle with Covid-19.

Tommy Pilling, 62, from Shoebury made history with his wife as the UK’s first couple with Down’s Syndrome to marry.

He died in Basildon Hospital on January 1, leaving behind his doting wife Maryanne, 49.

A family spokesman said: “We will never be able to say thank you enough for the support and kindness from our family, friends, neighbours and to all of you who took the time out of your day to light a candle and post it.

"Thank you to every single one of you that dropped off a candle to us for us to light on your behalf last night. Thank you for the cards, the flowers, the messages, the support and for sharing #waveoflightfortommy

"It means the world to us. Thank you thank you thank you."
