A SEAL pup was rescued after becoming stranded in the centre of Southend.
South Essex Wildlife Hospital said that the pup, named Garlic, is "packing on the pounds" after he was taken to their care in Orsett.
Garlic reportedly became stranded in the Prittle Brook after swimming up from the River Roach in Rochford, having previously swam all the way from Scotland.
A spokesman for the wildlife hospital said: "Garlic the seal pup recently rescued in Southend is packing on the pounds.
"One of the seals has been found a rehab place at RSPCA Mallydams Hospital and all the seals we are caring for are due to be weighed on Monday, so we are looking forward to that challenge."
