POLICE are set to ramp up patrols in Southend following a string of night-time burglaries.
Detectives say they do not believe the raids are connected but say push-bikes are being targeted by crooks.
Officers have received reports of several break-ins at outbuildings, such as sheds, across Southend in recent days and are urging people to ensure they have the correct security measures in place.
In a post on Facebook, the officers said: “Please be aware that we have had several burglaries of out-buildings across the Southend district in the last couple of nights, there is no pattern to these.
“We are stepping-up our patrols, but we’re also appealing for residents to ensure that they have adequate security in place.
“Consider exterior lighting, strong locks, shed/garage alarms.
“It is mainly pedal cycles that are being targeted, so please also consider bike security. Consider padlocking even when at home or security marking.”
