A WOMAN with a “Jekyll-and-Hyde” character has been jailed for her 32nd attack on emergency workers.

Annabelle Forbes was told numerous times by her friend and police officers to calm down as she was held down outside her home.

Despite this, she ended up lashing out at an officer resulting in her arrest.

Police had received a 999 call on December 18 last year with reports of an altercation where a knife was mentioned.

As a result, several officers attended the address in Princes Street, Southend, but by the time they arrived the man, who had reportedly been trying to get into the property, had left the scene.

As police officers were leaving, Forbes became verbally abusive despite pleas from her friend to remain calm.

But the 23-year-old, who was intoxicated, swung at the officer which hit him on the arm.

Forbes was taken to the floor and told repeatedly by officers and her friend to calm down, but when she was allowed up, she swung again which hit the officer on the arm, and she was arrested.

At Basildon Crown Court yesterday, Christopher Martin, mitigating, said alcohol misuse was the root of her offending.

He said: “No alcohol, no offending. She is a Jekyll-and-Hyde character.

“When not affected by alcohol, she is a completely different person.”

Forbes had previously been sentenced for five counts of assaulting an emergency worker in Preston Road, Southend on November 25, 2019.

An Essex Police review took place into an officer’s conduct as Forbes had several teeth broken when she was pushed to the floor, but police said the use of force was “appropriate”.

Judge Samantha Cohen said Forbes had appeared in court eight times in 2020 and that she was a “menace”, jailing her for 12 weeks in total.
