A SUPERMARKET worker has tested positive for Covid, chain bosses have confirmed.
It comes after rumours of seven cases at the Tesco shop in the Royals Shopping Centre in Southend, but bosses insist only one worker has the virus.
Early last week bosses at the supermarket chain also confirmed that a worker at the Kursaal store in the town also had tested positive for the virus.
But Tesco bosses also insist they are doing all they can to keep staff and customers safe.
They also say other staff members are having to isolate following the positive cases at the seaside town stores.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “A colleague at our Heygate Avenue Express store has tested positive for Covid-19. Their close contacts have been informed.
“The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are working with local public health authorities, following all Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.
“We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular cleaning.”
It comes as rates are falling across many parts of Essex.
