Lidl has revealed the date their new supermarket in Shoebury will open its doors for the first time.

The store - on Campfield Road - is set to open on Thursday February 18, and forms part of the company’s £1.3billion investment plans across the country for 2021 and 2022.

Creating around 40 new jobs for the area, the new supermarket will feature facilities including a 1,313m² sales area, a bakery, 140 parking spaces cars and a space for bicycles, as well as customer toilets.

And shoppers will be able to visit from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Surplus food and customer donations will also be provided to a number of charities in the local area. Off the Streets, which operates a night shelter for those in need, and C.A.S.T, which supports asylum-seekers and refuges in the local area, will both benefit from donations from the new store.

This is delivered through Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme in partnership with Neighbourly and connects stores up and down the country with local charities, food-banks, community cafes and kitchens, putting quality food surplus to good use every day.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Andrew Hodgkinson, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Shoebury.

"It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

As per government guidance, the wearing of face coverings in supermarkets remains mandatory across England.

Security guards will be placed at entrances to regulate customer numbers and to remind those not wearing a face covering of the government guidance and their own responsibility to keep themselves and others safe.

Lidl also continues to operate a range of social distancing measures to help maintain a safe environment for both colleagues and customers. Clear communication, including floor markings are implemented across stores, reminding customers of the importance of maintaining a two metre distance.

Other measures include dedicated cleaning stations at entrances, hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray and wipes for customers to use on their trolleys and baskets, protective screens at checkouts, as well as visors and face coverings are available for colleagues to wear.

In addition, customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment where possible.
