A BUS was seen skidding across the ice as it drove down Bread and Cheese Hill in treacherous conditions.

The bus, which appears to have been in service, ended up horizontally across the road in Benfleet last night as it descended the hill.

"Treacherous" conditions caused by Storm Darcy saw icy conditions across the county.

 

This comes as Essex saw yet more snowfall overnight, with more forecast for today.

Gritters were out in force in Southend last night, as families prepared for a bitterly cold night.

And Basildon Council leader Gavin Callaghan was himself gritting pavements near to his home, warning of slippery conditions.

 

A spokesman from the Essex Weather Centre, said: "Treacherous roads across the county with surface temperatures well below freezing.

"This was the scene on London Road, Benfleet."
