Council bosses have warned waste collections remain suspended until further notice because of snow and ice.

Rochford Council is also warning waste services are likely to be delayed into next week because of the freezing weather.

Waste collections across the district were suspended on Monday due to heavy snow and have yet to start up again due to the continuing wintry weather.

In a statement posted on its website, the council said: "Due to severe weather, all waste collections have been suspended until further notice, we are assessing the roads on a daily basis and will keep you updated, this will result in delays in the collection service this week and possibly into next week.

"The advice is to leave your recycling bins out so that it can be emptied in the normal way, placed at the boundary of your property by 7am on your collection day.

"If we don’t pick up your recycling bin as expected, please bear with us, and continue to present the bin, as we try to catch up.

"To ensure that we continue to keep our refuse and recycling collections going, once the collection round has taken place in your road, we will not be able to return for one off collections that have been missed.

"The bin will be emptied on your next available collection date and unfortunately we will not be able to take any extra recycling by the side of your bin."

The council says all compostable bin collections have been cancelled for this week.

It added: "We apologise for any inconvenience this disruption may cause to residents."

Thurrock Council has meanwhile confirmed it has resumed waste collections across the district today.

Bosses say any collections missed this week will be picked up next week.
