Various regions have changed dramatically over the years – so we have delved into the archive to look at how different Canvey is now compared to 50 years ago.
These eye-catching photographs were taken from the south Essex skies and show some areas we still know incredibly well today.
The Charfleets Industrial Estate can be seen in various images captured over the decades, up until the 1990s, while other photos show the Canvey coastline.
The Thorney Bay caravan site remains on the island, but there are also some buildings and homes which are no longer found today.

After more than 50 years on Canvey, Furtherwick Park School closed its doors for the final time in 2011.
Here are just some aerial shots through the decades.
