A MAN who died after being punched outside a bar had a history of violence including attacking two people after a crash, a court heard.

Paul Wallington, 25, died after the incident outside The Vine, High Street, Brentwood in the early hours of Christmas Day, 2018.

Leslie Wiseman, 30, of Whitehouse Meadows, Leigh is charged with manslaughter but claims he acted in self defence when Mr Wallington suffered catastrophic injuries.

During the trial at Basildon Crown Court yesterday defence barrister Peter Wilcock told the hearing Mr Wallington had been violent in previous incidents.

He said: “Mr Wallington lost his temper during an incident at Southend Airport and became aggressive to towards border force staff. They were so concerned they called for a report into officer protection.

“Three weeks before the incident at The Vine, he lost his temper after a minor crash and hit the other driver and then hit a passerby so hard he damaged his teeth.

“Mr Wiseman did not know about these incident at the time of the incident at The Vine.

“There is no doubt Mr Wallington was drunk and was unstable on his feet and had consumed cannabis.

“A witness described him as proper angry, talking loudly, swearing at his partner and looking like his eyes were on stalks.”

The trail previously heard Wiseman sent messages to friends where he described the incident, stating he “caught him a dream” and offered tips to friends on how to punch.

He admitted he was “idiotic” to send the messages and they were part of a “pathetic bravado chat with mates”.

Mr Wilcock added: “As Mr Wallington was unstable this would have contributed to him falling when he was struck.”

The trial continues.
