A FURIOUS mum says a car seat saved her two-year-old from serious injury after a driver smashed into her motor before driving off.

Lucy Johns, from Southend, was badly hit by a black Ford on the roundabout on the entry to the Tesco store on Prince Avenue, Westcliff, with her young son in the back.

Despite leaving her Volkswagen Polo with a badly damaged wing mirror and front bumper, the woman drove off.

Lucy, who was sitting at the red light in the right-hand lane on the roundabout, was left with injuries to her shoulder and back after the violent shunt.

The 21-year-old said: “She just drove into the side of my car, and just kept on going.

“She only stopped once she had pulled in front of me.

“She then screamed at me, telling me she was indicating.

“I had no idea if she was indicating, I was at the red light.

“I was left with aches and pains, but the car seat did its job in stopping my son being hurt.”

Miss Johns explained how she was even more angry when the driver of the Ford then drove into the Tesco’s car park.

She added: “I thought she was pulling into the car park so we could exchange details.

“But by the time I had got back into my car and off the roundabout, she then come out.

“We drove past each other on the way in and out. “I just didn’t know what to do in that situation.”

Miss Johns said she and her son were dazed by the crash and did not know how to react to the situation.

She said: “My son was just in shock, he weirdly wasn’t crying.

“My mum was freaked out when I told her. I don’t think she ever expected me to be in that situation.”

No other motorist pulled over to offer any help following the incident, Miss Johns added:

She added: “I was also annoyed that nobody else stopped to help either.

“There were a lot of people there, it was in the middle of the school run.”

Miss Johns has now launched an appeal on social media for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

She rang the police from the Tesco’s car park following the crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Essex Police was contacted for comment over the incident.
