PLANS to build nearly 630 homes are “flawed”, because data used to judge traffic is now ten years out of date, it is claimed.

Bloor Homes plans to build the huge development off Ashingdon Road, Rochford, but campaigners fear bosses have used old figures.

Tory council hopeful Ian Foster has now claimed data to judge the amount of traffic on Ashingdon Road, and the traffic flow, is ten years old, with “thousands of homes” built in the area since.

However, Bloor Homes insists its development has been proposed in line with planning policies.

Christine Austin, from the Rochford Supporters, a campaign group set up to oppose the plans, said: “It’s getting worse on the road. A fire engine was stuck standstill in traffic last month.

“If there’s no infrastructure being provided, which there isn’t, how can it go through.”

Bosses at Bloor Homes insist the plans will be coming with a GP surgery, as well as millions of pounds of investment in the area.

Mr Foster, who has produced a report into the issue, claims Bloor Homes used data from Essex County Council, which was published ten years ago. This stemmed from the census of 2011.

It also explains how Bloor’s plans to make improvements to roundabouts and providing ten more drop off spaces for parents, won’t make an impact.

Mrs Austin added: “We’re being told the road can cope just, but just isn’t good enough.

“Everything contradicts itself. We’ve got Rochford Council saying the road is 125 per cent oversubscribed, but then we’re being told it’s all fine.”

Rochford Council has asked Bloor Homes to provide further documents to support the plan.

A spokesman from developer Bloor Homes said: “We are absolutely confident that the planning application and associated infrastructure benefits are properly proposed in accord with planning policy”.
