A PAIR of fires were started in a woodlands yesterday prompting firefighters to be called to the scene.

Fire crews were called to Northlands Park in Basildon yesterday (April 5) after reports of a small fire in a wooden part of the park.

When crews arrived, they found two small fires which had been started deliberately.

It comes after the fire service were called to a small bonfire in Friars Park in Shoebury last month.

A spokesperson for Essex Fire Service said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a small fire in a wooden area of a park. When fire crews arrived they confirmed two small fires had been started deliberately. Crews extinguished the fires and left the scene by 8:15pm."
