Three in five people in Southend and Basildon have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 90,087 people in Southend had received a vaccine jab by April 4 – equating to 61% of those aged 16 and over.

Of those vaccinated, 64,744 were aged 50 or over – 91% of the age group.

It means 25,343 people aged between 16 and 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

In Basildon, 90,270 people have now had their first jab – equating to roughly 61% of the adult population. 

It means 26,497 people aged between 16 and 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

NHS data also reveals variation in vaccine coverage between different areas across the areas.

The proportion of residents prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged over 50, is one factor that could affect the number of vaccines distributed.

Areas where the highest number of adults have recieved their first jab in Southend are:

1) Thorpe Bay - 70%

2) Southchurch - 68.6%

3) Eastwood Park - 68.6%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Kursaal - 51.5%

2) Southend Central - 51.9%

3) Leigh - 52.1%

Areas with the highest coverage in Basildon are:

1) Wickford West - 70.2%

2) Billericay Tye Common - 68.8%

3) Eversley - 67.7%

Areas with the lowest coverage:

1) Laindon Central - 51.2%

2) Basildon Central and Pipps Hill - 53.2%

3) Barstable - 55.2%

Across England, 26.6 million people had received their first dose of a vaccine by April 4, covering 58% of the population aged 16 and over.

That includes 19.8 million people aged 50 and over – 94% of the age group. The figures also show that 4.3 million people have had a second dose of the jab.

A small number of people are not included due to their age being unknown.
