The A127 is closed in both directions while firefighters attend the scene of a gas leak.
The main road is closed between Nestuda Way and Eastern Avenue due to a gas leak at the junction with Rochford Road.
There's long delays on all approaches.
Crews were called to the gas leak in Southend at the Bell Junction and remain at the scene until it is safe.
Three fire trucks have attended the scene, two from Southend fire station and one from Leigh fire station.
Crews are working alongside the gas board and Essex Police as they tackle the issue.
The fire service have urged people living in the area to keep their windows and doors shut.
They've also insisted people avoid the area while they work with partners to make it safe.
