TWO men were arrested on suspicion of breaching Covid regulations after police were called to a large gathering in Wickford.

Essex Police were called to reports of the gathering off Pound Lane on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Our officers attended throughout the day to monitor the situation and to engage with the organisers of the gathering.

"Many of the attendees did agree to leave the area when we explained the current coronavirus legislation in place.

"However, in other cases we were left with no alternative but to take enforcement action, including the arrest of two men, aged 26 and 51, who were arrested on suspicion of breaching coronavirus legislation.

"Both are still in custody."
