A MAN has been arrested for careless driving after a pedestrian suffered serious injuries in a crash.
Essex Police have launched an appeal for information after the pedestrian was rushed to hospital this afternoon from Sadlers Farm roundabout.
A section of the roundabout remains closed while police investigate the scene.
There are major delays on all routes leading up to the roundabout.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A man has been arrested following a serious collision at the Sadlers Farm roundabout on London Road, Basildon.
"We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at 2.20pm.
"The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.
"A man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and perverting the course of justice."

Witnesses described seeing multiple police cars at the scene, with pictures showing traffic building around the area.
