PUNTERS are raving about the return of a historic pub in Wickford.

The popular Dick Turpin, on the A127, is set to reopen this summer after the decision to permanently close the pub has been reversed.

It was announced in November last year that the Dick Turpin would not reopen, after closing in the first lockdown, leaving residents extremely disappointed.

After consideration the parent company Greene King has decided to reopen the pub and is currently recruiting for a new team.

Echo readers have been left delighted at the news.

Jon Silverstone said: "Just in the nick of time. another few more weeks, and you could've kissed goodbye to this pub. Will be along for a drink in late June."

Kelly Inwood said: "At least it’s not becoming a block of flats yet."

Kay Thompson said: “Ah this is great news, it’s a lovely carvery.”

Georgia Dedman said: “Phew! It looked like was about to be knocked down the other day.”

A spokesman for the Dick Turpin said: “The decision to close the pub was made due to the effects of the pandemic and the continued tightening of the trading restrictions for pubs.

“After reviewing the circumstances this year, we have decided that once restrictions have been lifted further, we can reopen the pub to our residents once again.

“We’re excited to be re-opening the Dick Turpin after being closed for so long. We are currently recruiting for a number of roles within our kitchen and serving team and encourage anyone interested in working in hospitality to get in touch to apply.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone in Wickford back to celebrate with us.”
