A hero police dog sniffed out a large quantity of drugs from the boot of a car.

Police dog Oreo was on hand to alert his handlers to the drugs, suspected to be cocaine, after officers stopped the car on Canvey.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

The 35-year-old, from Canvey, has since been released under investigation.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Officers from our dedicated drugs unit stopped a vehicle on Canvey, after it attracted their attention.

“With the assistance of police dog Oreo who sniffed out a quantity of wraps containing what we suspect to be cocaine, a 35-year-old man, also from the town, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

“He was released under investigation.”
