Another week, more crimes come through the justice system.

The magistrates' courts have continued to process criminals through the system this week, with crimes including drink driving, assault and harassment.

Here is a rundown of some of the criminals sentenced recently.

Roxanne Duke, 30, of Cheltenham Road, Southend, appeared in court after being caught in the town back on November 5, 2019.

She was found driving a Vauxhall Corsa on Bournemouth Park Road, and following a breath test, was found to have 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which is over the legal limit.

She appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court where she admitted the offence and using abusive words and was fined £100.

Robert Batho, 39, of Chalkwell Esplanade, Westcliff, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court where he admitted having an offensive weapon, namely an extendable baton.

The offence took place on the A127 in Basildon on February 19 this year.

He was given a year-long community order with 100 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £145 costs to the prosecution.

Rebecca Ferguson, 46, of Collingwood Road, Basildon, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court where she admitted assaulting an emergency worker.

The offence happened in Basildon on May 10 last year where Ferguson assaulted a male and female paramedic.

She was given an alcohol treatment requirement along with 40 days of rehabilitation.

Matthew Tullett, 46, of Lundy Close, Southend, appeared in court charged with stealing a bicycle worth a total of £150 from a man in Southend.

The offence happened on December 23 last year.

He was fined a total of £120 at Basildon Magistrates’ Court and must also pay prosecution costs of £145.

Stephen Meeson, 42, of Eastern Esplanade, Southend, admitted assaulting a man following an incident on September 15 last year in Southend.

He was given a year-long community order with 30 days of rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid work, with a victim surcharge of £95 and £105 in prosecution costs.

Billy Barr appeared in court after being caught in Rayleigh on September 18 last year.

The 23-year-old of Old Church Road, East Hanningfield, was driving a BMW M Sport on the A129 in Rayleigh when he was pulled over by the police.

A test was carried out and Barr was found to hae 2.6 microgrammes of cannabis per 100 millilitres of blood, which was over the legal limit.

Barr was arrested at the scene and later charged with drug driving, which he admitted on April 24 and was then sentenced at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates’ bench chose to fine Barr a total of £296 for the offence, and he must also pay £145 in prosecution costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

He was also disqualified from driving for a minimum of 12 months.

Joseph Harvey, 33, of Roding Drive, Brentwood, admitted assaulting a woman in Essex on June 14 last year when appearing at Basildon Magistrates’ Court.

He was given a community order for two years, and he must take part in a building better relationships programme for 30 days and 15 days of rehabilitation. A restraining order was also imposed for two years.

Andrew Stoddart, 36, of The Hastings, Wickford, was convicted of harassing another man in Wickford before April 4 and May 19 last year.

Stoddard admitted getting CCTV cameras to film his neighbour’s back yard in The Hastings during this period.

Stoddart denied the crime but was found guilty on April 29.

He was given a year-long community order with 100 hours of unpaid work, and must also pay £620 in costs to the prosecution.
