A POPULAR Westcliff pub is set to get a “facelift” as new owners have announced major plans to revamp the site.

Restaurant bosses at Ramen+Chill and Hatters and Hills will be taking over The Melrose pub in Hamlet Court Road - which will be renamed The Melrose Tap.

It comes as businesses and residents around Hamlet Court Road - which was once considered the Bond Street of south Essex - have been coming together to find new ways to see it flourish once more.

Despite plans to give the pub a new lease of life, bosses insist it will still retain some of its original features.

As a result of the new takeover, the pub won’t be reopening until July as works are done to extend the garden and create an additional bar for the outside area.

Announcing their latest project, Hatters and Hills said they’re looking forward to welcoming old and new customers to the pub when it opens.

They said: “It’s with great pleasure to announce that we have completed and are the new proud operators of The Melrose Westcliff.

"We look forward to welcoming you all very soon."

As well as offering a range of classic brands and craft beers, the pub will also be adding a Sunday roast to the menu for guests to enjoy.

Andy Atkinson, chairman of the Hamlet Court Road conservation forum said: “We want to see anyone who is investing in the road and anyone who is bringing in new development.

“We want to see any improvements to the road that’s going to help it thrive.

“That’s what residents want to see and that’s what we want to see.”

Christine Hindle, 63, who works near to Hamlet Court Road said: “Anything positive for the road is needed.

“Hamlet Court Road 40 years ago was lovely.

“It was booming but it definitely isn’t the best it can be right now.

“I wish them the best of luck with it.”

Councillor Cheryl Nevin said: “It’s great news that this popular local pub is getting a new lease of life by serving Sunday roasts after what has been a difficult year for the hospitality sector.

“We have all missed time together with friends, family and loved ones and are looking forward to sharing better times ahead.

“I’m sure the community around Hamlet Court Road will welcome this news.”
