Greensted Junior School in Basildon held a fantastic ‘Innovating the Future’ science week with lots of fun and fancy dress.
The children learnt many new skills that are essential for scientific enquiry by setting up a range of exciting practical investigations both in a workshop and in their classes.
Asking and answering questions is vital for innovation and this is a skill that the science and technology director, Louise Lawrence, was determined that children in Greensted should master.

She said: “All year groups thoroughly enjoyed the practical experiences that the week has offered them and have explored either physics through forces investigations or chemistry through mixing and separation experiments.
“It has been delightful to hear the roar of excitement exploding from the hall each day when children took their turn in the workshops.”
Additionally, children learnt about a range of scientific inventions and discoveries and how they have developed over time.
The Year 3 children were fascinated to learn about Isaac Newton and how his work still underpins the fundamentals of modern physics.
The Year 4 children mastered the art of mixing chemicals to produce the most amazing slime and in Year 5, the children worked together to build award winning balloon cars to race.
