A SEAFRONT fun park is undergoing a £100,000 revamp in the hope of a successful summer as Covid restrictions are eased.

A new 18 hole mini golf course and 20 seat carousel ride have been installed at Fantasy Island on Canvey seafront with a go kart track to come.

The Gray family, owners of the site, also run The Monico, Jimmy Macs and Estuary Views and are speaking with schools across Essex to organise day trips where they can teach youngsters about the coastline.

Suzanne Gray said the park revamp will be a huge benefit to families and provide a welcome boost after the Covid pandemic.

She said: “We’ve got a new 18 hole mini golf course and a 20 seat carousel and we’ve improved that side of the seafront.

“It’s final part of the jigsaw after we developed Jimmy Macs restaurant and Sugar Rays ice cream parlour.

“It’s a £100,000 investment and will enable families to enjoy spending time down here and we’re hoping to go in a different direction with working with schools for the children’s education.

“For children aged eight and nine part of their curriculum is about coastal erosion and for some children in places like Milton Keynes we are their nearest seaside town.”

The leisure firm boss said schools will be able to book the fun park and other venues while children learn about the impacts of coastal erosion.

They have contacted schools themselves after researching curriculums and have already had interest from schools in Hadleigh and even as far as Milton Keynes.

The fun park bosses revealed a go kart course will also be added to the fun park ahead of the site fully re-opening.

Mrs Gray added: “We’ve also got new go karts too as part of the investment. “We will be reopening the park in about two weeks time.

“We will be aiming to have schools down during the week and then at weekends offer families and visitors discounts and packages for Fantasy Island and our other venues too.

“This will all make a really big difference to so many families and it will help bring people down and help the children’s learning too.”
