Echo readers have provided a mixed reaction to the idea that someone’s vaccine status would determine whether they would date them or not.

Dating apps Tinder, Bumble and Hinge have all announced plans to set up a new feature which will allow users to provide information about their Covid vaccine status.

The brands will give in-app bonuses to those who say they are vaccinated including free “super likes”, which usually cost extra.

Features will include vaccination badges and stickers to display on dating profiles, free “super likes”, and other boost-type features.

Users will also start seeing adverts and banners for the “every vaccination gives us hope” campaign.

When asked if someone’s vaccine status would be a crucial factor in who they dated, Echo readers were unsure how important it would be.

Some insisted they agreed with the concept.

Lee Boatwright said: “I don't think their vaccination status is important.

“I think the reason behind their vaccination status is important though. I'd happily date someone who was unvaccinated for medical reasons, but I wouldn't date someone who is unvaccinated for stupid reasons because I can't be dealing with stupidity.”

Simone Darkwife said: “It’s reflective of their attitudes ,values and opinions.

“Unless there was a very valid reason for them not to have it.

“I am also a nurse so have a responsibility to my patients and my colleagues.”

Sean Gavin George O'Hara added: “I would consider it a failing in their personality .

“To care more about themselves than everyone else seems to me a selfish person.

“I would think on it and consider how they also treat other people.”

But other readers insisted it would make no difference to them, and were skeptical of the idea of apps adding a vaccine status feature.

Glen Joshua Watts said: “It doesn't bother me, I'd date anyone i like regardless of if they've had the vaccine or not.”

Tim Stone said: “A persons vaccine status, whether they choose to be vaccinated or not should be a private thing, it’s no one else's business, currently people are being vilified if they don't wish to have the vaccine.”

Daniel Smith added someone’s status wouldn’t matter but their view of the vaccine would.

The Department of Health and Social Care said providing vaccination status on these apps is optional but added that data has shown that people are more likely to date someone who has had a Covid-19 jab.

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said the badge feature is another asset to the government’s vaccination programme.

“The vaccine is our way out of this pandemic and we have made incredible progress so far with over three-quarters of adults receiving at least one dose.

“I encourage everyone who is eligible to roll up their sleeves and get the jab – it could save your life and protect your loved ones.”
