Drivers were stuck in three-mile queues this afternoon following a crash on the A13.
It is understood three vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened on the eastbound carriageway near Pitsea.
Images on social media show some drivers left their vehicles after traffic reached a standstill.
Both the ambulance and fire service were spotted at the scene.

Traffic maps suggested cars were queuing nearly three miles back to the Five Bells Interchange.
There were also delays on the westbound carriageway opposite the crash but there are no reported incidents on that side of the road.
One driver told the Echo they were stuck in queues for more than an hour.
There was also reports of an air ambulance being called to the scene, and landed on the opposite side of the road.

Update 3pm
Police have now confirmed all lanes have reopened on the westbound carriageway.
One lane is open on the eastbound side but drivers are still urged to avoid the area.
