FURIOUS homeowners have hit out at developers for forcing them to live among a “jungle garden” and leaving the car park in a mess despite charging £1,000 a year for services.

Residents living at Prospects Place on Fairfax Drive, Southend, have criticised Weston Homes for not delivering on the services promised, as families complain about incomplete pathways and their windows not being cleaned.

Frances Joslin, 26, bought her home back in July last year, with the expectations of quarterly window cleaning and communal gardening.

She’s hit out at Weston Homes for not keeping to their list of services, despite the annual charge for them.

Frances said: “Everything they’ve promised and what we’re paying our service charges for they’re not living up to.

“They were very quick to take our service charge fees off of us but they are not doing anything for us.

“The shared central garden area it’s like a jungle. We were promised quarterly window cleaning and we have not had that once since I moved in.

“The car park has been left a mess and the public pathway has not been completed.

“We’re expecting more than this. It’s just not good enough.”.

Another resident, who asked not to be named, has resulted in doing the gardening herself.

She said:”Since we’ve moved into this property we’ve had a lot of problems. The communal garden, I looked out and it was a mess. I had to ask my other half’s dad to come and mow the lawn and I’ve been de-weeding it.

“To ask for all that money for the service charge up front they’re robbing people blind. To have that taken from us and have nothing to show for it it’s disgusting.”

A spokesperson for Weston Homes said: “The handover procedure between Weston Homes and Gateway, the managing agents, is just taking place. Weston Homes apologise for not ensuring the grass was cut prior to the handover, to rectify the situation the grass is being cut in the next 48 hours.

“Weston Homes realising the importance of these works are currently in the process of engaging a contractor of their own to carry out the required section 278 works on behalf of the Local Authority.”
