THERE are lots of cool places to work in north Essex, but we bet there aren't many cooler than Colchester Zoo.

There can't be many more exciting places to work and we're sure no two days are the same.

And there are often opportunities at the Maldon Road attraction, particularly now it is now back open to the public.

The zoo employs about 350 people in dozens of different roles.

Echo:

The jobs available aren't just for those with animal-related qualifications either.

In fact, the zoo is often in need of tradespeople as well retail assistants and the like.

At the moment the zoo is advertising for five different roles:

  • Admissions Assistant (Temporary Seasonal)
  • Soft Landscape Gardener (Full Time)
  • Cleaner (Full Time)
  • Storeman (Full Time)
  • Electrician (Full Time)

Interest in roles is always high so if you don't hear four weeks after making an application, yours has been unsuccessful.

The zoo also encourages people to send their CVs in, even if there is not a specific role advertised they are applying for.

The zoo's website says: "Later in 2021 it is hoped a level of normality will return and the Zoo’s gates will once again re-open to our customers who are patiently waiting for this day.

"We will therefore need to recruit new staff, full time or part time, to fill in various positions in every department.

"If you see working at the zoo your ultimate goal, please email us at hr@colchesterzoo.org with your relevant details or fill in the Colchester Zoo Employment Application Form, whatever your skill or profession, so we can keep your application on file until the day we will be able to hold interviews."

Colchester Zoo is back open to visitors after a tough period of lockdowns.

The attraction lost a huge amount of money whilst being closed and it had to launch an operating fund appeal for funds to keep it going.

You can find out more about any of the roles here.
